The Los Angeles Chargers ultimately took University of Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert with the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft last week. But Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said he liked all three signal-callers that went in the top 10. Speaking on DAZN's Pat McAfee Show, Telesco said:

“We felt great about all three quarterbacks that went in the top six … All three are going to be really good players in this league. It's a comforting factor to know — hopefully, we don't pick six very often. If we do, I won't be making very many picks here. If we're gonna pick this high and there's a potential down-the-road franchise quarterback there that you like, you have to take him. And we were lucky to have some quarterbacks there in this draft who were really good players.”

Of course, Herbert was the last one off the board of the top three quarterbacks, as Joe Burrow went No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals and Tua Tagovailoa went to the Miami Dolphins just ahead of Los Angeles at No. 5.

However, there were some who actually felt that Herbert was the second-best quarterback prospect in the draft behind Burrow, and Telesco seems entirely happy with him as their pick.

For the Chargers, it will represent a stark change, as they spent the last 14 seasons with Philip Rivers under center. But earlier this offseason, Los Angeles decided to part ways with Rivers, beginning a new era for the franchise.

Herbert is coming off of a strong final season at Oregon in which he threw for 3,471 yards, 32 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 66.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 156.8.

Meanwhile, the Chargers went just 5-11 in 2019.
