More good news for the Los Angeles Chargers after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in an AFC West showdown this past Thursday: running back Melvin Gordon is expected to return in Week 16 for his team's matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Gordon has been out the past three weeks with a knee injury, but the Chargers have not missed beat in his absence, winning all three games in spite of a tough schedule to improve to 11-3.
Gordon is having a very nice season, rushing for 802 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 5.1 yards per carry. In addition, he has hauled in 44 receptions for 453 yards and four scores.
The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Wisconsin, was originally selected by the Chargers in the first round (15th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Article Continues BelowHe had an underwhelming rookie campaign, totaling just 641 yards without a touchdown on the ground and recording 3.5 yards per attempt, but the following year, Gordon made the Pro Bowl after finishing with 997 yards and 10 scores in 13 games while adding 41 catches for 419 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
Gordon played a full 16-game season for the first time last year, accumulating 1,105 yards while reaching the end zone eight times as a rusher. He also snared 58 balls for 476 yards and four scores.
Los Angeles has won four games in a row overall and now owns the same record as the Chiefs atop the AFC West standings. However, Kansas City does currently lay claim to the top seed in the division by way of tiebreakers.
