Through his first three years in the league, Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has established himself as one of the top players in the league at his position.

Things could be headed toward him putting together a career-best campaign in 2018 as he recently voiced that he feels physically better than he has in the last several years, according to Dan Woike of The LA Times.

It is quite an encouraging sign for the Chargers to hear that their star running back is feeling great physically ahead of next season. The team is counting on him to once again play a major role in the offensive game plan with likely an increased involvement in the passing game as a primary fixture in that aspect.

The 25-year-old is coming off his most productive campaign where he notched a career-best 85 targets where he recorded 58 catches for 476 receiving yards for four touchdowns. It was also his first 1,000 rushing yard campaign of his career that helped him put himself alongside Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson as the only players in franchise history to record at least 1,400 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns in consecutive seasons.

Gordon has a chance to firmly secure himself among the top-tier running backs while making a strong case to push for a lucrative long-term deal with the Chargers. Although he has two more years left in his deal, the 2019 campaign will mark the fifth-year option. There is plenty of motivation for Gordon to put together a stellar campaign that could benefit greatly beyond just helping lead his team to success on the field.
