Melvin Gordon will return to the Los Angeles Chargers' lineup this weekend, but how much he actually plays remains in question.

Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn hinted at Gordon having only a limited role against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, noting that Austin Ekeler will be the No. 1 back:

“I don’t want to put him in there and play him too much, and I really don’t have to,” Lynn said of Gordon, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “I like what Austin Ekeler has been doing.”

Gordon has yet to play this season, as he began holding out earlier in the offseason and did not participate in training camp nor preseason.

Los Angeles reportedly offered Gordon a contract extension of around $10 million per year, but Gordon was not happy with the deal and declined. There was a feeling that Gordon could miss the entire 2019 campaign, but he ended his holdout just before last week's game against the Miami Dolphins.

The 26-year-old is in the final year of his current deal and is scheduled to earn $4.6 million. He lost about $2 million in penalties during his holdout.

Gordon, who played his collegiate football at the University of Wisconsin, was originally selected by the Chargers in the first round (15th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He has made a couple of Pro Bowls since then, including the 2018 campaign in which he rushed for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging a career-high five yards per carry.

Los Angeles currently owns a record of 2-2.
