The Los Angeles Chargers may just be 4-6 and their chances of making the playoffs seem bleak, but don't tell that to Philip Rivers.

With a pivotal matchup that will likely determine whether or not the Chargers will remain in the AFC postseason picture looming with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night, Rivers insists that Los Angeles is not in a desperate situation.

“I don’t think desperation,” Rivers said, according to Gilbert Manzano of The Los Angeles Daily News. “I think urgency. Any other word you can think of. … I don’t think we feel desperate, although we know how crucial this game is.”

Many would disagree.

There is a very strong possibility that the Chargers may need to win all six of their remaining games to make the playoffs, and at the very least, they probably need to go 5-1.

The good news for LA is that it does play the Chiefs twice from here on out, so the Bolts have an outside shot of winning the AFC West if they can handle Kansas City both times, and Rivers knows it.

“It’s not 100 percent accurate, but to almost be able to say you control your own fate at 4-6 it’s pretty rare,” Rivers said. “So the focus is there and the belief is there that we can turn it around.”

Of course, that might be all wishful thinking, and if the Chargers were able to put together some more wins against what appeared to be inferior competition earlier in the season, they wouldn't be in this predicament.
