Los Angeles Chargers stud running back Melvin Gordon is dealing with a sore knee as well as a sore hamstring. His status for this week's game against the Arizona Cardinals is growing increasingly cloudy.

Head coach Anthony Lynn spoke to reporters ahead of this Sunday's game and stated, “Most starting runners this time of year are sore, or something's wrong. So we'll have to decide if it's worth holding him back or just letting him go.”

The former Badger is having an incredible season. The fourth-year running back has 741 rushing yards along with seven rushing touchdowns. In addition, the Wisconsin product has racked up 448 receiving yards to accommodate four receiving touchdowns on 42 receptions.

The Chargers are sitting comfortably in second place behind the powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately for the Chargers, the Chiefs look more or less unstoppable aside from their losses to the Rams and Patriots. Los Angeles will need Gordon healthy moving forward if they hope to make a run for a playoff spot.

Backup Austin Ekeler is a good running back, but he has nowhere near the talent that Gordon possesses. If the Chargers can pull off a win against the Cardinals while resting Gordon, they can hope to have him at full health or close to it against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13.

If Gordon can't go, the Chargers will likely look to pass more than usual since Ekeler is most effective in that area. The Chargers defense will likely see the field more without Gordon on the ground, that's the kind of player he is.
