The 2020 NFL Draft is going to be held virtually due to the coronavirus, possibly setting a precedent on what could happen in the future. Kevin Demoff, the COO of the Los Angeles Rams, hopes that the virtual draft will force an evolution in the way the draft is conducted.

“There are many things that come out of moments like this,” Los Angeles Rams COO Kevin Demoff said. via ESPN's Kevin Seifert. “I don't know that having to have a card and a call to a draft center are needed protocol in 2020 even in the best of scenarios, so maybe a different way to submit picks is an advancement that comes out of this time rather than something that's just historically done.”

Over the years, the NFL Draft has been held at a set venue. At the venue, all 32 teams are present and will submit a card with the player's name that they intend to select. Then, the commissioner will announce the pick to the crowd of fans that attended the draft.

However, this year's draft is going to be held virtually, forcing teams to decide on who's house will be used as a draft war room. Within the confines of their homes, coaches and general managers will be connected to the other teams via video. Even Roger Goodell will be announcing the first-round picks from his basement.

While it's unlikely the NFL adopts this year's draft in the future, it could be used to make adjustments in future drafts. As Demoff highlighted, maybe teams could submit picks differently in accordance to how the selections will be made in the 2020 NFL Draft.
