Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald missed some time against the New Orleans Saints due to a back injury, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. He joined Saints quarterback Drew Brees as the game's superstars to sustain an injury in the NFC Championship rematch.

In the first quarter, Brees banged hands with Donald. The quarterback returned to the sideline with tape on his right thumb while Teddy Bridgewater ran the offense.

Donald suffered the injury in the second quarter of the game. He left the game with a tackle for loss, on New Orleans running back Alvin Kamara, to his name. Without Donald, the Rams looked to Tanzel Smart and Morgan Fox to hold down their interior pass-rush.

Luckily, Donald returned before the end of the first half of the two team's highly anticipated rematch.

Donald, at this point in his career, is considered to be the best defensive player in football. His accolades reaffirm that. Over the past two seasons, he's won two Defensive Player of the Year awards. In 2018, his 20.5 sacks paced the league and were the most all-time by a defensive tackle.

Brees, though on the sideline as of the time of writing, has immense respect for Donald, saying:

“I don’t even have names for all the moves he can do to get to the quarterback. You cannot block him with one guy.“He’s such an impact player, he can change a game. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anybody like him,” per Mike Triplett of ESPN.

Unfortunately, Brees will have to witness Donald get to a different quarterback.
