It goes without saying that the Los Angeles Rams made some star-studded additions to their roster this offseason. This resulted in a major upgrade on their defense, with the secondary getting a major boost in the process.
All the attention has been focused on the additions of Pro Bowl cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters. However, according to Vinny Bonsignore of the Los Angeles Daily News, Peters feels safety John Johnson is poised to make his first Pro Bowl.
High praise: Rams CB Marcus Peters is predicting future Pro Bowls for safety John Johnson.
Needless to say, this is certainly a bold claim for Peters. However, it is not too far-fetched considering the progress Johnson made last season.
The Rams already boast one of the most talented secondaries in the league with the addition of Talib and Peters. Perhaps even more impressive has been the emergence of their safety help over the top. Lamarcus Joyner flourished in his first full season after switching positions from corner to safety. Meanwhile, Johnson proved to be one of the most promising young safeties in the league last year.
Los Angeles selected Johnson in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Boston College. His career got off to a slow start at first, however, he saw a huge uptick in playing time as the season went on. He wound up finishing the 2017 campaign with 75 tackles, 11 pass defenses, and an interception. More importantly, it is clear that he has already made quite the impression on his new teammates.
