The Los Angeles Rams are on a mission. The team that struggled under Jeff Fisher in their first year back in L.A. is now flourishing with Sean McVay at the helm and an aggressive front office seemingly determined to make this team a Super Bowl title contender for the foreseeable future.
Along with the additions of Ndamukong Suh, Aqib Talib, and Marcus Peters, the Rams are reportedly targeting superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. of the New York Giants in a trade. Beckham has let it be known he wants to sign a lucrative contract extension before the upcoming season and it appears the Giants may be willing to move him for the right price with Los Angeles supposedly willing to go the distance for one of the league's elite receivers, according to Peter King of Sports Illustrated.
There’s too much smoke around the Odell Beckham Jr.-to-the-Rams trade story to dismiss it. First it was Giants CEO John Mara saying in Orlando: “I want him to be a Giant. I can’t promise that’s going to happen.” Then it was the Rams doing nothing to debunk the rumors of their interest. Then it was Beckham, according to the New York Daily News, telling Rams players he would like to play there. Here’s what I think now: The Rams are definitely interested. The price tag—likely two first-round picks plus a contract averaging at least $18 million a year—is daunting and could eventually road-block L.A., but that’s not happening now. If the Giants move Beckham, the Rams will be in the game until the end.
There's no question with the moves the team has made this NFL offseason that they want to win and win now. Adding Beckham into the mix of an already talented offense could propel them to elite status with one of the most intimidating offenses backed up by an absolutely stacked defense led by the two-headed monster of Suh and Aaron Donald.
Of course, the Giants are going to want to get what they deserve in exchange for Beckham. The rumored price tag is two first-round picks, and if the Rams are serious about acquiring the perennial Pro Bowler with the intent of competing for a Super Bowl right away, they may give New York what they're asking for in a blockbuster deal.
With the 2018 NFL Draft only a few weeks away with the first round getting underway on April 27, the clock is ticking with these teams possibly working hard on trying to get a deal done sooner rather than later.
