This time last year, the Miami Dolphins were not shy about expressing their high expectations for wide receiver DeVante Parker. However, it appears they have decided to take a different approach going into the 2018 NFL season.
Miami has been enamored with Parker's skill set for quite some time now. That said, they have realized that setting lofty goals every year has not been the best way to go about his progression, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Parker emerged as a quality second option behind former wide receiver Jarvis Landry during the 2016 campaign. His prototypical size and speed added an explosive element to the offense. As a result, the coaching staff was looking forward to him taking a big leap last season.
Unfortunately, he fell vastly short of their high expectations. Parker registered 57 catches for 670 yards and just one touchdown in 13 games last season. Needless to say, his production was not quite what the Dolphins had envisioned for him last offseason.
Now it seems they are looking to take the pressure off of him a little bit. Regardless, Parker is now poised to potentially replace Landry as the team's No. 1 wideout. This means that this could potentially be a deciding year for him in terms of a long-term future in Miami. Fortunately, the quarterback situation is expected to be much more stable this time around with a healthy Ryant Tannehill under center.
