The Miami Dolphins were eliminated from playoff contention after their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill is taking the blame, according to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald.
“We have to be cleaner, every position, starting with me,” said Tannehill.
Tannehill completed 15 of his 22 passes for 146 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the 17-7 loss.
On the year, Tannehill has thrown for 1,832 yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 65 percent of his passes in 10 games.
The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Texas A&M University, was originally selected by the Dolphins with the eighth overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.
He started all 16 games during his rookie campaign, throwing for 3,294 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, completing 58.3 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 76.1.
While Tannehill has been consistently solid ever since, he has never been able to take that next step, and a torn ACL that caused him to miss the 2017 campaign didn't do him any favors.
There is a chance that the Dolphins will cut ties with Tannehill this offseason and opt for the rebuild, as it seems blatantly obvious that this team is never going anywhere with Tannehill under center.
Such has been the case for the once-proud Miami franchise.
The Dolphins have made the playoffs just twice since 2002 and have not won a playoff game since the 2000-01 campaign.
Miami currently owns a record of 7-8 and will wrap up its regular season by heading on the road to take on the Buffalo Bills next weekend.
