The status of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remains up in the air as he continues to deal with a thumb injury heading into a Week 12 matchup against the New York Jets. According to Good Morning Football, the rookie jammed his thumb into a helmet in practice which could eventually slot veteran playmaker Ryan Fitzpatrick under center for their upcoming game.

The tenured journeyman also saw action in their most recent encounter against the Denver Broncos as he took over the reins in the fourth quarter of the game with the rookie evidently struggling on the field.

Tua Tagovailoa only tallied 83 passing yards on 11-of-20 pass completions to go with a touchdown before heading to the sidelines. Fitzpatrick came out with a better performance as he generated 117 passing yards on a more efficient 12-of-18 passing clip for the Dolphins.

However, his efforts weren't enough as the Miami-based squad succumbed to the Broncos on a 20-13 loss to drop back to a 6-4 record. Even with the defeat, the Dolphins are still in the think of the ongoing playoff race heading to the latter stages of the season.

Although the benching of the rookie wasn't intended to be a permanent move, the latest incident could keep him out depending on the severity of his thumb injury. A clearer decision on Tua Tua Tagovailoa's playing status will most likely be revealed prior to the start of their upcoming game.

With Ryan Fitzpatrick possibly starting under center, the team is hoping to get back in the win column as they go head-to-head against a struggling Jets side for Week 12 action.
