The New England Patriots released Antonio Brown on Friday, just 11 days after he was signed by the reigning Super Bowl champions following his acrimonious departure from the Oakland Raiders. Despite yet another setback amid additional and more troubling controversy on Brown's road to redemption, though, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, insists the six-time Pro Bowler is ready and willing to play for another team.

New England waived Brown in wake of another damning report by Sports Illustrated in which he allegedly sent threatening text messages to a former business partner who alleges Brown never paid her.

Shortly after the Patriots signed him earlier this month, Britney Taylor, a longtime friend and former trainer of Brown, told Sports Illustrated she was suing the superstar wide receiver for multiple instances of sexual assault, including rape. Taylor provided screenshots of text messages purportedly sent by Brown in which he seemed to admit sexual misconduct.

The NFL has opened investigations into both incidents.

Brown was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Raiders in March after growing crossways with franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and coach Mike Tomlin. His tenure with Oakland was marked by turmoil, including frostbitten feet as the result of a cryogenic chamber mishap and dispute with the league office over his helmet. Brown's time in silver and black came to a close shortly after he got into an argument with general manager Mike Mayock during practice.

In Week 2 with the Patriots, the only he's played in so far this season, Antonio Brown had four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown.
