With Cam Newton out of action after testing positive for COVID-19, the New England Patriots wanted to take all the necessary precautions ahead of their game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday.
According to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, the Patriots will fly in two different planes as they travel to Kansas City. One plane will transport about 20 people who have had close contact with Newton. Everyone else will be aboard a separate plane.
News spread quickly that the Patriots' new star quarterback had tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. The Chiefs also saw Jordan Ta'amu test positive, and the game was postponed. However, no further positive tests means the game is now scheduled for Monday night, at least for now.
There has been much talk of the NFL needing to find a rather firm bubble-like solution following the recent slew of positive COVID-19 test results in the past week. If the cases around the league continue at an alarming rate, there may have to be a temporary postponement of games. The Tennessee Titans are currently dealing with an outbreak, which could put their Week 5 tilt against the Buffalo Bills in jeopardy. Luckily, as of right now, there have been no other positives around the league outside of the ones involving the Titans, Patriots and Chiefs.
The Patriots will be shorthanded in talent without Newton against a formidable opponent in the Chiefs on Monday night.
