New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon has filed for reinstatement, according to Howard Balzer of Balzer Football.
Back in December, Gordon announced he would be stepping away from football to focus on his mental health. Not long after, it was revealed that Gordon had been suspended indefinitely by the NFL for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement.
Suspensions are nothing new for Gordon, as the wideout has played in just 22 games since 2014 as a result of them.
Gordon played in 12 games between the Cleveland Browns and the Patriots this past year, marking his longest season since he appeared in 14 contests with the Browns back in 2013. As a matter of fact, Gordon had participated in just 10 games between 2014 and 2017.
The 28-year-old began the 2018 campaign with Cleveland, playing in one game with the club before being dealt to New England. He went on to total 41 receptions for 737 yards and four touchdowns on the season.
Article Continues BelowGordon, who played his collegiate football at Baylor University, was originally selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft.
He appeared in all 16 contests during his rookie year, catching 50 passes for 805 yards and five scores. Then, the following year, Gordon broke out, snaring 87 balls for 1,646 yards while reaching the end zone nine times, earning a Pro Bowl selection and First-Team All-Pro honors as a result.
But, from that point on, suspensions due to substance abuse have derailed Gordon's NFL career and have prevented him from likely becoming one of the best receivers to ever play the game.
Hopefully, Gordon can get reinstated and stay on the straight and narrow this time around.
