The Green Bay Packers released linebacker Nick Perry on Tuesday, and Mark Daniels of The Providence Journal thinks that the New England Patriots could take a look at him.

It would definitely make sense, as the Patriots just lost their top edge rusher in Trey Flowers to the Detroit Lions.

Perry is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played just nine games due to a knee injury. When he was on the field, he registered 24 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at USC, was originally selected by the Packers in the first round (28th pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He appeared in just six contests during his rookie season as a result of a wrist injury, registering 18 tackles and a couple of sacks. Then, the following year, Perry played in 11 games, finishing with 33 tackles, four sacks and three forced fumbles.

The Detroit native had his breakout season in 2016, when he racked up 52 tackles, 11 sacks and four passes defended, but other than that, Perry's career has been full of inconsistency and has been marked by his inability to stay on the field.

Still, given his talent, he could certainly represent a nice low-risk, high-reward pick up for someone, and there aren't many better teams than the Patriots at finding those types of players.

New England is coming off of a season in which it won 11 games and captured its 10th straight AFC East division title.

The Pats then went to defeat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl.
