The New England Patriots have agreed to terms on the rookie contract for first-round pick Sony Michel, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The running back, who was the 31st pick in this year’s draft, will put pen to paper on a standard four-year deal with a fifth-year option.
Michel’s signing comes right in the nick of time with Patriots rookies set to report to training camp on Sunday. He will join Georgia teammate and fellow first-round pick Isaiah Wynn, who signed his rookie deal last month.

Michel will once again be part of a crowded backfield in New England. Dion Lewis may be gone, but James White, Rex Burkhead, Jeremy Hill, and Mike Gillislee are still on the roster and will be competing for touches with the Mitchell from the backfield.
Expectations will be high on the rookie to perform right away and show why the Patriots decided to spend a first-round pick to get him. He’s the first running back the Pats have picked in the first round since Laurence Maroney in 2006. But with Hill and Gillislee not locks to even make the team, Michel will have every chance to take on the lion’s share of the carries for the Patriots this season.
