While the NFL world reacts to the news that New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has been charged with solicitation of prostitution, Kraft has issued a brief statement denying the entire situation.

In a statement provided to the media from a spokesperson for the Patriots owner, Kraft denied that he ever engaged in any illegal activity. “We categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity. Because it is a judicial matter, we will not be commenting further,” reads the statement.

Earlier today, Jupiter police told reporters that Kraft was being charged with misdemeanor solicitation of prostitution after he was videotaped paying for a sex act in an illicit massage parlor twice. According to the police, Kraft has yet to be arrested, but a warrant has been issued and his attorneys have been notified.

If charged, Kraft would likely be given the chance to participate in a “diversion program” (per ESPN), which would consist of 100 hours of community service and having to attend an educational program about the negative effects of prostitution and human trafficking.

Kraft, who has owned the Patriots since 1994, has been one of the most successful owners in NFL history, winning six Super Bowl titles with the Patriots and often being cited as one of the better owners in sports. Despite the many controversial issues that have popped up with the Patriots throughout his tenure, none have been as serious as this, and with Kraft denying the allegations, it’ll be interesting to see what type of punishment he faces if convicted.
