New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is shouldering the blame after the team lost on the final play against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Gronkowski found himself in a situation to make the tackle on Kenyan Drake's wild game-winning score, but he could stop the former Alabama star from finding the end zone of what was one of the craziest plays of the NFL season.

And with the Patriots failing to clinch the AFC East after the shocking outcome, it was the veteran tight end that blamed himself for what happened on the miracle play.

Here's what Gronkowski had to say about the sequence, courtesy of ESPN reporter Cameron Wolfe:

“The way it ended sucked,” Gronkowski said. “I've never been a part of anything like that. I feel like it's going to test our character big-time. I have to make that tackle.”

New England is still in good shape to make the playoffs, but this was undoubtedly one of the most deflating losses of Bill Belichick's tenure with the franchise.

However, this is a veteran team that is led by one of the greatest coaches and greatest players in the history of the league, so there should be no concerns when it comes to the Patriots being ready for next week's important showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But at 9-4 on the season, another postseason berth is likely for New England, and a deep run in the playoffs would probably help Gronkowski and company forget about this brutal loss in Miami.
