There's a ton of different things that fuel athletes around the NFL. Football is one of the toughest and most competitive professional sports out there and balancing mental and physical strength has always been key for anyone to succeed. For New York Giants rookie LB Cam Brown, it's a life-long journey of tragedy and loss that's been keeping him going.

Brown's career in the NFL was off to a rough start after his Giants dropped their first five games of the season. On Week 6, New York finally got their first W against the Washington Football Team and Brown is claiming that divine intervention helped him get his first NFL win.

On that game, Brown chose to wear a black shirt under his game jersey with a photo of his childhood friend Jonathan Somuah or “Boogie”. Somuah tragically passed away just over a year ago in a car accident. Boogie was 21. Brown opted to pay tribute to his buddy by wearing a shirt with a photo of Somuah and the words “Forever with us”.

His friend Boogie, wasn't the only one Brown has lost so far in his young life.

In both his Instagram and Twitter bios, the words “Rest in Paradise to the ones I've lost, I'm balling for y'all now!” are front and center.

The 183rd pick of this year's NFL Draft by the Giants has lost a handful of his closest friends and mentors in different stages of his life. Though it's been tough battling with these losses, Brown has used all this to further push him to achieve his ultimate goal.

“I think about those people every day I get to walk out on the field and play football, honestly,” Cam Brown said (via The New York Post).

What doesn't kill you make you stronger, doesn't it? Brown has been the living testament to that phrase and he's hoping to carry the memory of all his loved ones as he embarks on his journey to greatness in the NFL with the Giants.
