New York Giants fans may not the only ones not on board with the selection of quarterback Daniel Jones. Eli Manning, the team's incumbent starter under center, has already canceled his scheduled weekly appearance on WFAN Sports Radio because he's not sure he will be New York's starter in 2019.

Radio host Mike Francesca announced the news during his segment on Friday, per NFL Network's Kimberly Jones.

However, subsequent reporting has revealed that Manning canceling his weekly spot is unrelated to the Giants' pick of Jones at No. 6 overall on Thursday night. According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, the Giants informed WFAN “a few weeks ago” that Manning would no longer be doing the spot because he “did not want to answer questions about his future.” Manning had been joining Francesa for a 10-15 minute interview for the last 15 years, being paid six figures for his time.

Jones, perhaps the most controversial selection of the first round, was frequently compared to both Eli Manning and his older brother, Peyton, during the pre-draft process. He was coached by David Cutcliffe at Duke, who was Eli's coach during his time at Ole Miss and the Tennessee offensive coordinator for Peyton's four years in Knoxville. Jones threw for 2,674 yards, 22 touchdowns, and nine interceptions while completing 60.5 percent of his passes last season, pedestrian numbers for a first-round pick, but has been consistently lauded for his on-field intellect and natural leadership ability.

After picking Jones, Giants general manager Dave Gettleman stressed patience with the rookie signal-caller, even suggesting that New York could sit him for three years, like the Green Bay Packers did with Aaron Rodgers while Brett Favre was nearing the end of his career.
