The big question everyone has for the New York Giants heading into the offseason is what they are going to do with Eli Manning and if he will be back for next season.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, the expectation this offseason is that the team will try to find Manning's replacement, but they will still have Manning be the starting quarterback for next season.
“This remains, as SNY has been reporting for months, the most likely scenario. The Giants are not expected to be looking for a replacement via trade or free agency. Much more likely, they'll seek his heir in the draft. That leaves only one open question”
“Will they tinker with his contract to reduce his $23.2 million cap hit. There's no guarantee they will and it's tricky since it's the last year of his contract. Whatever they do, they'll probably due it before March 15 when his $5 million roster bonus is due.”
Most believed the Giants would take a quarterback last offseason and maybe Manning wouldn't be on the team this year. The team instead decided to take Saquon Barkley and now the team still has a glaring question at quarterback.
Manning was under pressure a lot last season and it led to struggles. Manning threw for 4,299 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while completing 66 percent of his passes. The Giants currently have the sixth overall pick in the draft and there are a lot of mock drafts projecting that Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins will be the selection.
