Less than a week into training camp, injury attrition has left the New York Giants hurting for playmakers.

Already dealing with the offseason departure of superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., the Giants will be without two other marquee receivers going forward. Free-agent signee Golden Tate was recently suspended four games for a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, while incumbent stalwart Sterling Shepard fractured his thumb on day one of training camp and won't return until the season-opener – at the earliest.

One way New York could mitigate the negative influence of Tate's suspension and Shepard's injury? Designing a package of plays for safety Jabrill Peppers, who starred on both sides of the football during a standout career at the University of Michigan. He certainly seems intrigued by the prospect of getting some snaps on offense, too.

“I’d be open to it,” Peppers told Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com.

“It’s nice being able to get your hands on the ball and make plays to help the team.”

Jabrill Peppers was acquired by the Giants in the trade that sent Beckham to the Cleveland Browns. He had 79 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, four quarterback hits, five passes defended, and three fumble recoveries last season, also serving as Cleveland's primary kick and punt returner.

Coach Pat Shurmur has made an effort early in training camp to try and keep Peppers' workload in check, as he's slated to start at strong safety and return punts. But with New York hurting for playmakers on the other side of the ball, don't be surprised if the team gives him a look with the ball in his hands on offense, too.
