The New York Giants own the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft next week, but will they actually use it?
It remains to be seen, but general manager Dave Gettleman said that the Giants could look to move the pick:
“It's something I will very seriously entertain,” Gettleman said Friday on a conference call with reporters, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
Given the fact that New York only owns two picks in the top 95, trading the fourth selection to add some picks later on could certainly make sense.
“We're sitting there with the fourth pick of the draft. It's going to happen pretty soon,” Gettleman added. “I'm going to make calls and anybody that wants to move up, I'm going to say, ‘Listen, we don't have much time. We can't fool around. I'd like to get the parameters of a deal in place before we get on the clock.' That would be the best thing.”
The general consensus is that, if the Giants keep the pick, they will end up taking one of the top offensive tackles on the board, such as Louisville's Mekhi Becton, Iowa's Tristan Wirfs, Georgia's Andrew Thomas or Alabama's Jedrick Wills.
Because there is so much depth at that position in this draft class, New York can trade down and probably still nab one of those tackles in the bottom of the top 10.
“There are tackles throughout the draft,” Gettleman said. “There is a lot of talent there.”
The Giants went just 4-12 this past season, but with Daniel Jones under center and a wealth of talent at the other skill positions, Big Blue is an interesting team heading into 2020.
The NFL Draft will begin next Thursday.
