The New York Giants have now taken quarterbacks in three straight NFL Drafts after taking Duke signal-caller Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick on Thursday night.

Of course, this is the first time the Giants have chosen a quarterback in the first round since drafting Eli Manning all the way back in 2004, but New York has quietly been searching for a Manning successor for a few years now.

In 2017, the Giants took Davis Webb in the third round of the draft. Last spring, New York went with Kyle Lauletta in the fourth round.

Webb is no longer on the Giants' roster, and Lauletta will now be the club's third-string quarterback—at best—going into 2019.

Obviously, the Jones pick is pretty different, as New York is openly expecting the 21-year-old to assume the starting role under center sometime in the near future.

Jones will likely sit behind Manning in his first season with the team, and he is happy to learn from the two-time Super Bowl MVP.

“That’d be awesome,” Jones said before being drafted by the Giants about potentially learning under Manning, according to Giants beat writer Art Stapleton. “I’d be extremely excited about that. I think an opportunity to learn from a guy like Eli, watch him the way he carries himself day in and day out would be a tremendous learning opportunity for a young guy, and that would be an awesome situation.”

Manning became the Giants' starting signal-caller midway through his rookie campaign and has been the starter ever since, so Jones will be ushering in a new era of quarterbacking in the Big Apple.
