In his lone season as the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, Pat Shurmur helped lead the team to much success in the 2017 campaign.

This helped Shurmur earn the prestigious honor of the Assistant Coach of the Year by the Associated Press on Saturday night.

The 52-year-old helped implement one of the league's most explosive offenses contributed to the Vikings reaching their first NFC Championship game in eight years and win the NFC North division title for the second time in the last three years. They rank 10th with 23.9 points per game, seventh with 122.3 per yards contest, and 11th with 234.6 yards per game. Shurmur was able to do that despite having both quarterback Sam Bradford and rookie running back Dalvin Cook lost for almost the entire season due to injuries.

He had helped Case Keenum put together in place of Bradford, he notched career-best numbers across the board with 3,547 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions while holding a 98.3 quarterback rating. He finished second in the league with a 67.8 percent completion rate and seventh in quarterback rating. keenum also held a passer rating above 100 eight times, including tying Hall of Famer Brett Favre and Daunte Culpepper for the longest streak in franchise history with four straight games reaching that mark

Pat Shurmur is set to grab his second head coaching gig of his career as he's set to start his first season with the New York Giants in 2018. His previous stint was two seasons with the Cleveland Browns where he compiled a 9-23 record over that span. Shurmur will have the task of taking over the helm of the Giants offense with former Pro Bowl quarterback Eli Manning expected to remain with the team next season.

The Giants are coming off a disappointing season where they finished with one of the worst records in the league and missed the playoffs for the fifth time in the last six years.
