The New York Giants are going through a difficult 2018 campaign that has seen them seemingly play their way out of the playoff picture despite their being five more weeks left in the campaign.

This has drawn a fair amount of criticism along the way with more than their performance on the field that has seen New York sports radio host Mike Francesca of WFAN taking a shot at head coach Pat Shurmur for his handling of the players, in particular, their dealings with star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. However, Shurmur responded to that during an interview on Francesca's show to state that he doesn't believe he and his staff are “coddling” their players.

“I wouldn't say we're coddling them. We're not coddling,” Shurmur told Francesa on WFAN.

Through the first several weeks of the season, Beckham Jr. has been quite vocal with his frustrations and shortcomings with what his team has had on the field. Within that, he has also criticized how the offense has been run at times that began with his desire to featured more prominently in the offensive game plan.

This has now led to him voicing after this past Sunday after the 25-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that there was no plan of attack to go after the Eagles' depleted secondary during the contest. Beckham Jr. has proven throughout his career that he can be vocal about his frustrations, which at times can create more headlines and scrutiny on the team that has especially caught more attention given the team's struggles this year.

The Giants have been put in the position of having to adjust to that being the case with their star wide receiver. This is simply having better lines of communication with Beckham Jr., but beyond finding a way to turn the franchise around so that these outside criticisms around the organization can dissipate.
