The New York Giants continue to score touchdowns in their week one preseason game against the New York Jets. Early in the second quarter, third-string quarterback Kyle Lauletta found wide receiver Russell Shepard for a 51-yard touchdown. Lauletta threw a ten-yard pass to Shepard; then the receiver did the rest of the work; sprinting 41 more yards to the house.

Shepard is in his second season with the Giants. Before then, the 28-year-old played four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and one with the Carolina Panthers. The 6-foot, 195-pound receiver went undrafted out of LSU in 2013.

His best statistical season came in 2016 in Tampa Bay; as he recorded 23 receptions for 341 yards and two touchdowns while starting four games out of 14. In 2018, with New York, he played in 12 games, recording ten catches for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
The Giants need help at wide receiver. Speedster Corey Coleman tore his ACL in training camp after signing a one-year deal, starter Golden Tate faces a four-game PEDs suspension from the NFL, and fellow starter Sterling Shepard suffered a thumb injury during training camp. Of course, Odell Beckham Jr. is a Cleveland Brown now too.
Shepard will compete with a litter of receivers to round out the Giants' receiver group. Including Darius Slayton Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler, Alex Wesley, Alonzo Russell, Da'Mari Scott, Brittan Golden, T.J. Jones, and Reggie White Jr. So far, the preseason has helped Shepard's stock to make the roster.
