The New York Jets are coming off of a 27-14 loss to the New England Patriots, falling to 2-8 on the season. In turn, the Jets have decided to take some drastic measures.
New York has benched Justin Fields in favor of Tyrod Taylor, via Diana Russini of The Athletic. The Jets rank dead last in passing yards entering their Week 12 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
In their most recent loss, Fields completed 15-of-26 passes for a measly 116 yards and a touchdown. While Fields also ran in for a touchdown, he and New York were simply unable to keep up with the Patriots.
That has been the story throughout Fields' debut with the Jets. Over his nine starts, the quarterback has completed 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns and an interception. Fields has been able to limit takeaways, but he hasn't brought much on offense either.
He has an equal number (four) of games under 100 yards passing and games above 200. Those four game under 100, he didn't even get to double digit completions. Fields has continued to operate as a successful runner, gaining 383 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. However, his limitations in the passing game have become too much for head coach Aaron Glenn.
At this stage of his career, Taylor doesn't necessarily bring much excitement. However, the veteran at least understands how to manage an offense at this stage of his career. Perhaps most importantly, the promotion of Taylor/demotion of Fields undoubtedly means the Jets will be looking for their starting quarterback once more come offseason.
