Butler was traded from the  Bulls in the offseason of 2017, as the team decided to enter into a full rebuild mode after multiple failed efforts to become contenders in the Eastern Conference. Derrick Rose had long departed before Butler, which could've been a signal for Butler that his time in Chicago won't last long.

After averaging career highs in points (23.9), rebounds (6.2) and assists (5.5) in 2016-17, the Bulls and every other team were positive that Butler would be looking to cash in on his production.

Now, Chicago is a non-playoff team currently trying to find the right pieces to put around Zach Lavine, a player bought over in the Butler trade from Minnesota.

Butler, on the contrary, has taken an underdog team built for a few rounds in the postseason and transformed them into championship contenders. Initially, the plan was for Butler to settle into head coach Erik Spoelstra's offense this season while making the best of it with the roster they currently possess. After a few mid-season trades though, the Heat became contenders, knocking off Eastern Conference favorites in the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks.

Jimmy Butler will look to prove to the NBA world once more that he and the Heat can beat all the preconceived notions that were bestowed upon them in early season predictions. The once thought locker room cancer in Butler has found a home in Miami. If their high level of play continues against the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals, he'll find a championship as well.
