Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year award.

The award comes along with the league's MVP honors. Mahomes really outperformed everyone's expectations.
The Chiefs took Mahomes with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 draft. This was a risk since they still had Alex Smith on the roster.
But it seemed like the front office had put their cards into the young man. They even traded away Smith. To Andy Ried and the rest of the organization, Mahomes was their quarterback moving forward.
Their bet paid out perfectly, as Mahomes has proven himself to be the best quarterback coming into the league since Tom Brady himself.
Article Continues BelowThis past season for the Chiefs, he threw for 5,097 yards with 50 touchdowns while only giving up 12 interceptions. His completion percentage was at 66.0 percent. His quarterback rating was 82.0, leading the entire NFL He was simply the best quarterback in the entire league.
During the regular season, he carried Kansas City to a 12-4 record. However, they were knocked out in the AFC championship game by the New England Patriots.
Mahomes still had a great game then and proved that he could step up on the big stage. In that game, he threw for 295 yards with three touchdowns.
However, he was never able to prove himself in overtime, as Brady and the Patriots drove down the field and scored the game-winning touchdown. The Patriots are now in the Super Bowl facing off against Jared Goff and the New England Patriots.
