Oklahoma Sooners head football coach Lincoln Riley doesn't think that NFL Network commentator Charley Casserly's comments about Kyler Murray's performance at the combine are actually true. Casserly said that the teams he has talked to said Murray's interviews couldn't have gone any worse.
Riley countered by saying he talked to some of the teams that had one-on-one interviews with Murray, and they had nothing about rave reviews for him.
“I’ve personally spoken with the majority of teams that he met with [at the Combine} and everyone was glowing about their conversations with Kyler,” Riley told Dan Patrick. “Basically the complete opposite of what Charley said.”
One of Casserly's comments was that a big takeaway from talking to teams was that they didn't believe Murray was a true leader. Riley doesn't understand where that comment came from, but he doesn't think it could be farther from the truth.
“Kyler was a tremendous leader for us,” Riley said. “All he cares about is winning. I think our team took on his personality.”
Riley is going to stick up for his former player, so it makes sense that he is coming hard after Casserly's comments. In the grand scheme of things, what either of these guys say doesn't truly impact where the quarterback is drafted. What's important is that one team trusts Murray as the signal-caller they can build around.
There has been a lot of steam around the idea that Murray to the Arizona Cardinals could already be a done deal. It could also be a smokescreen to try and get others to trade up and try to get him. Either way, we will find out where everyone goes at the end of April.
