The Kansas City Chiefs team selected Trent McDuffie with the 18th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. McDuffie is one of many promising cornerbacks in the 2022 draft class, and the Chiefs secondary will greatly benefit from his contributions this season.

McDuffie earned a 6.70 Prospect Grade from the NFL, which categorizes him as a solid first-year starter. The junior out of the University of Washington is 5'11” and 193 pounds.

He has a slight height disadvantage compared to other cornerbacks in his draft class. Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner stands at 6'2″, Derek Stingley Jr. is 6'1″, and Andrew Booth Jr. is 6′. Fortunately for McDuffie, the inch or two he lacks in height, he makes up for in competitive fire and natural talent.

According to his NFL prospect profile, McDuffie is a “fearless, aggressive competitor,” while also balancing the perfect amount of patience. The cornerback has a “natural feel for angles” and “the juice to bait throws and pounce on them.”

Not to mention, his career with the Washington Huskies is a huge reason he was such a sought-after cornerback in the 2022 NFL Draft. In 2021, McDuffie only allowed 16 catches on 296 total passing snaps (per his NFL profile).

In 26 games with Washington, he recorded 93 sacks, 35 of which came from his 11 games in 2021. McDuffie also recorded one sack and six pass deflections his junior year, padding his already-stacked resume.
