Former Green Bay Packers starĀ Julius Peppers was one of the league's best defensive ends. His talent as a pass-rusher was unheralded. The 6'7ā³ 300 lb. monster used his size and surprising speed to get around the edge and to put pressure on the quarterback.
Peppers was one of a kind because he was able to match his speed with his strength. He's the anti-left tackle. In the same way, Duke Blue Devil Zion Williamson is an athletic freak. The 6'7ā³ 285 lb. is also an athletic freak of nature. He would be the most athletic swingman since LeBron James was drafted as a rookie in 2003. His 45ā³ vertical is something that simply isn't seen from NBA players.
When Peppers was asked about their comparableĀ body types, he noted the similarities as well.
āI don't think I was as explosive as he was getting off the floor, but I think our games were similar in a lot of ways, he way that he plays the game, the way that he can overpower people in the paint and he can also get past people in the perimeter. I think it would've been a similar type game, without all the above-the-rim aspects of it.ā
Peppers retired this past season as the NFLās fourth all-time leader in sacks after 17 NFL seasons, three of which he spent in Green Bay from 2014-16.
Peppers racked up 104 tackles, 25 sacks, eight forced fumbles and two interceptions returned for a touchdown in 48 regular-season appearances with the Packers. He was one of the fiercest defensiveĀ ends in the league.
