The first full month of regular season NFL football is complete, and the league named Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff as the winners of the Offensive Player of the Month award for September. Mahomes is a second-year player, and it's his first season as a day one starter. Meanwhile, Goff is entering his third season. Either way, both players have shown that they are among the elite in the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes has thrown for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns through his first four starts with the Kansas City Chiefs. The 13 touchdown mark he reached after Week 3 broke Peyton Manning's record for most touchdowns thrown by a quarterback in his first three starts. He tops the touchdown passing list so far this season. His explosive offense features Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Kareem Hunt and Sammy Watkins.

Jared Goff had a rough start as the starting quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams. He was selected No. 1 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, and was considered to be a surefire star. He really began to blossom last season, throwing for 3,804 yards and eight touchdowns in his sophomore campaign. This year, Goff's 1,406 passing yards rank him second in the NFL. With Todd Gurley, Cooper Kupp and Brandin Cooks at his disposal, not many teams can compete.

Both Mahomes and Goff are among the frontrunners in the MVP race this year. Since they are leading their respective conferences, their game that's scheduled for November 19th could be a Super Bowl preview. These two have much more in store for the 2018-19 NFL season.
