The AFC may have been a little too stagnant for some NFL fans as the same faces have won the league for much of the past decade. However, things are about to change. For the longest time, only Tom Brady or Peyton Manning have dominated the AFC. The two of them took turns winning the AFC title until after Manning retired. Brady dominated the AFC landscape afterward as the rest of the league struggled to take him down.

However, Brady's New England Patriots will be making an early exit from the playoffs after being defeated by the Tennessee Titans. This means that this is going to be the first time in a long time that a new face will be hoisting the Lamar Hunt trophy in this playoffs.

The list, provided by Justis Mosqueda, points out how dominant of a quarterback Brady has been throughout his career. From 2003 until 2018, he won nine AFC titles. Manning won four while Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers won three. The odd man out was Joe Flacco, who won it with the Baltimore Ravens in 2012.

This assures that a new face will be hoisting the trophy since 2012, and the possible players who will be doing that are all superb football players.

With Tom Brady out, the Titans' Ryan Tannehill showed resilience against the Patriots on Saturday but is an unlikely candidate to win the trophy. Deshaun Watson is a superb quarterback, but there are questions about his team's quality. The heavy favorites to win the championship are Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Both men have played fantastic football and will be top bets to win.

This year's AFC playoffs will be exciting to watch, and fans will keep an eye on which quarterback will stand out the most, but it won't be familiar faces in Tom Brady or the retired Peyton Manning.
