NFL players who get suspended under the league's substance abuse policy apparently aren't very clever in their maneuvering. At least, not if you believe Tiki Barber.
During a recent appearance on Fox Business, the legendary former New York Giants running back dished on how easy it was for players to beat the league's drug tests.
“We always used to call it like the ‘dummy test’ because you know when the test is going to happen so just be clean and as long as you’re not in the program you can probably get away with it even if they technically know that it’s happening,” Barber explained.
This would come as news to the seemingly endless list of players who are suspended for violating the policy each year. Barber has become quite the entrepreneur since retiring, and one of his latest investments is in a firm that invests in Marijuana startups.
“It’s simply a business opportunity,” Barber said. “We wanted to put a group together that could attack this cannabis space in an intelligent way that makes sense for not only the business opportunity but also for minority communities and create a message of social progress.”
The Giants drafted Barber in the second round back in 1997, and he spent his entire 10-year career in New York. The Virginia product made three Pro Bowls, and was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2005. For his career, Barber finished with 10,449 yards rushing and a 4.7 yards per carry average.
Barber has also dabbled in media work since his retirement, and is currently a host on CBS Sports Radio.
