Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder loves to have his finger on the pulse of what happens with his team. Snyder has historically made headlines by making decisions for his team that have since turned out to be questionable, at best.

So, when Grant Paulsen on 106.7 The Fan reported a day ago that Snyder had “taken control” of the first round of the NFL Draft, the news was far from unbelievable. However, the team denies it.

Team spokesman Tony Wyllie told Paulsen after Paulsen’s original tweet that “any person saying Dan Snyder has taken over the team’s first-round decision making is ‘categorically false.'”

Chatter persists that Washington will try to trade into the top five of the first round, though the truthfulness of those claims remains questionable. If the team does trade up, though it would entail the team drafting a quarterback, something senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams has acknowledged could happen even if Washington remains at 15.

The last time reports surfaced about Snyder “taking control” the Redskins made a blockbuster trade to move up to No. 2 overall in the 2012 draft to select Robert Griffin III.

Washington does need a long-term solution at the position with Alex Smith's future in doubt and Case Keenum and Colt McCoy only signed through this year.

The Redskins have hosted a number of quarterbacks for visits through the pre-draft process, including Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins, Missouri's Drew Lock, Auburn's Jarrett Stidham, West Virginia's Will Grier and Duke's Daniel Jones.
