Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith is back on the practice field only 11 months after suffering a gruesome injury that many thought would end his career.

A reporter from The Athletic spotted Smith on the practice field on Monday, and as part of practice, he was dropping back and throwing a few different routes. He didn't put a ton of weight on his injured leg, but was still able to throw the ball with a lot of loft on it.

Smith has been around the team during his rehab process but this was the first time that he has been seen doing football-related activities.

Smith has dealt with setback after setback from the injury, and this is a good first step to not only show maybe he can get back on the football field, but also that he will be able to live a normal life. Smith is under contract with the Redskins until 2022 on a four year, $94 million contract.

He hasn't done a ton of interviews since the injury and hasn't talked to the media since early August.  Smith said at that time that he was embracing the idea of working towards a comeback and wasn't ready to call it a career just yet.

The Redskins drafted Dwayne Haskins in the first round in April so it's hard to imagine that by the time he is ready to play he would have a job with the Redskins but maybe there is another team that is looking for an experienced quarterback that would bring him in.
