Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins will get his time to shine. The rookie from Ohio State is going to play in the team's first preseason game against the Browns, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.

Haskins is currently locked into one of the league's only quarterback battles with Colt McCoy and Case Keenum. McCoy was listed atop the first depth chart, although head coach Jay Gruden insisted the whole depth chart was “silly.”

If Haskins, the 15th overall pick in April's draft, is going to beat out the veterans, he's going to need to show well in the preseason.

“We’ll see how he does in a game,” Gruden told reporters. “It will be kind of cool to see him in a game. We’ll see how he does. We’ll see how he’s taken what he’s done on the practice field to see how it transitions into a real game situation. And how he handles the huddles and cadence, anticipation, accuracy — all that good stuff.”

While the Redskins have insisted they're going to be patient with Haskins and not rush him, they also didn't draft him so early for him not to play. Gruden is going to be coaching for his job this season, which might eventually force his hand.

When asked if Haskins is ready to play, Gruden responded with coachspeak.

“Got to play sometime there, so now is as good a time as any,” he said. “We’ll see how he does.”

Haskins' debut will be one of the most anticipated storylines of the first week of preseason action.
