Jay Gruden really wants Trent Williams back. News leaked earlier that the Washington Redskins' left tackle is demanding a trade or release over issues with the team's medical staff. It was initially thought that Williams' holdout had to do with his contract, but that's apparently not the case.
“Trent knows how much we need him and want him back. That's the only thing I can do from here,” Gruden said after a minicamp practice, per JP Finlay of NBC Sports.
Gruden specifically didn't deny that Williams' issues were with the medical staff, but he didn't shine much light on the issue either.

While Gruden knows the team needs him, he didn't sound all that confident. When asked if he thinks Williams will return, Gruden replied, “I sure hope so.” It's an honest assessment from Gruden, if nothing else.
Needless to say, it would be a devastating blow to Washington if he forces his way off the team. Williams has been one of the league's better tackles for years now, although he has battled a slew of injuries the past few years.
The Redskins' offensive line was depleted by injuries last year and they just lost top swing tackle Ty Nsheke in free agency, so they really can't afford to lose Williams. Williams currently has two years left on his deal.
