The struggling Kansas City Chiefs need help on both sides of the football, so they called up the Pittsburgh Steelers to make an offer for disgruntled outside linebacker Melvin Ingram. They were rebuffed.

According to NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala, Pittsburgh would rather send the veteran OLB to the NFC, hence their rejection of the Chiefs' offer.

Following the season-ending injury to pass-rusher J.J. Watt, Kinkhabwala speculates that the undefeated Arizona Cardinals could be a logical landing spot for Ingram.

Earlier this week, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport included Ingram in his piece detailing possible notable names who could be dealt ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline. He mentioned the Chiefs as a potential landing spot.

“The longtime Chargers veteran landed in Pittsburgh this year and has yet to hit his stride. With inconsistent playing time, teams have begun calling the Steelers about potentially trading for Ingram, and it does appear the Steelers have listened and engaged. Due the balance of just $1.075 million in base salary (the team paid $2.925 million in a signing bonus), Ingram isn't expensive. The Chiefs have been among those on the hunt around the league for a pass rusher, and they did host Ingram on a visit before he signed.”

In six games this season, Ingram has one sack, six quarterback hits, and just five solo tackles. He's been on the field for less than half of Pittsburgh's defensive snaps in two of the last three games, including just 26 percent in the team's Week 6 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The Kansas City defense currently ranks 28th in the NFL in yards allowed per game (404.6).

The 2021 NFL Trade Deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. ET.
