No one saw the New England Patriots coaching staff's decision to bench starting cornerback Malcolm Butler just prior to the Super Bowl coming. Well, almost no one. Intrepid NFL insider Ian Rapoport got the scoop and broke the news on Twitter a handful of hours ahead of the game itself.

As it turns out, though, it wasn’t actually Rapoport but a fake account using his name and likeness which sent out the tweet, which nevertheless turned out to be right on the money a few hours later.

Looking back, it’s incredible to think just how right that fake account turned out to be and how improbable it was. Not only did he get the exact Patriots player out of the 53-man roster accurately, but he also mentioned that it was a coach’s decision, which was the reason the Patriots have parroted in the aftermath of the controversial move.

Although he was beaten to the scoop, the real Ian Rapoport still had to give props to his fake account for nailing the bombshell news ahead of him as well as every other insider in the business.

This isn’t the only Patriots-centric “news” the fake Rapoport has nailed, though. He was also way ahead of the curve in predicting Matt Patricia would succeed Jim Caldwell as Detroit Lions head coach.

After seeing his Butler tweet come to fruition in stunningly accurate fashion, Browns fans will now be hoping the fake Rapoport’s previous tweet – Kirk Cousins signing in Cleveland – will also become a reality later this offseason.
