Recently, the Las Vegas Raiders hired Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to be their new head coach, following the Seahawks appearance in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. The Raiders are hoping that Kubiak will be able to find more success than Pete Carroll did in his lone season at the helm in Las Vegas.
Now, more information is coming to light about who Kubiak might hire for his staff once he arrives in Las Vegas.
“Seattle quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko is a natural candidate. He has been with Kubiak in Minnesota, New Orleans and Seattle. I expect him to have some traction there, or possibly in-house with Seattle,” reported Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Fowler added that “Offensive passing game coordinator Jake Peetz has been on the offensive coordinator cycle in recent years and could get an in-house look, too. And running backs coach Justin Outten has also come up in league circles as a potential candidate.”
Whoever Kubiak decides to hire for the role will likely be working with quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the Indiana star who recently helped lead the Hoosiers to the national championship and is expected to be drafted number one overall by the Raiders in two months.
Mendoza is more of a traditional pocket passer than other recent number one overall draft picks at quarterback, but showed in the national championship game that he is more than capable of using his legs to create plays when necessary.
The Raiders also have some intriguing skill positional weapons in running back Ashton Jeanty and tight end Brock Bowers to help give whoever the team hires as their offensive coordinator some tools to work with.
In any case, the Kubiak hire is expected to be made official shortly after the Super Bowl on Sunday evening. Meanwhile, the NFL Draft is slated for late April.
