Josh Gordon hasn't been the world-beater many expected he'd be in the Seattle Seahawks offense. In four games in the Emerald City, the former Cleveland Brown and New England Patriot has six receptions for 81 yards.
According to Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, that won't cut it. Seattle needs to get Gordon the ball.
Via Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune: “He just hasn't gotten the ball enough yet.” Said Gordon had some big shots vs Rams but ball didn't get to him. Says he can have “a big game at any time.”
The Seahawks claimed Gordon off of waivers after the Patriots released the polarizing wide-out. It appears as if they are still figuring out ways to incorporating him in an offense that should, theoretically, find production for him.
Though a run-orientated offense, the Seahawks is also a big-play one. Quarterback and MVP candidate Russell Wilson is known for his deep-ball throwing. His anticipation, football knowledge, and rocket-launcher arm make for a passer that should take advantage of speed, which is why Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf so well in the offense.
Gordon should follow in Lockett and Metcalf's foot-steps as productive players in the Seahawks' offense. Like the two aforementioned, he has a big-play threat, as he wins matchup off of his speed, size, and vertical route-running.
If the Seahawks can figure out a way to incorporate Gordon more heavily into their offense, they may find that their team becomes even that more vaunted. Luckily, with three weeks left, they are a playoff team — they have time.
