Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the team has had no communication with safety Earl Thomas as he continues his holdout from training camp, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio KJR and PFT reports (per Charean Williams of PFT).
Carroll’s revelation comes days after he was critical of Thomas’ decision to skip camp last week, saying he should be there.
Thomas, who is in the final year of his contract, has made it known publicly that he wants either a new long-term deal from Seattle or a trade away from the team he’s played for his entire eight-year NFL career.
Article Continues BelowHowever, it was recently reported that the Seahawks informed Thomas earlier this offseason that they would not address his contract situation this year. There’s also a “belief” that Thomas would be willing to continue his holdout into the regular season if he didn’t get a new deal or a trade.
The Cowboys remain the most likely destination for Thomas if he does get traded. The All-Pro safety has made his desire to play for his childhood team known. But while the Cowboys likely remain interested, they haven’t engaged the Seahawks in trade talks for Thomas since the draft, and Seattle is still unwilling to lower their asking price.
Only time will tell how the whole Thomas saga will eventually play out in Seattle. But with no communication between the team and Thomas and possible bad feelings developing on both sides, it doesn’t appear as if a positive resolution is coming anytime soon.
