The Seattle Seahawks have been surprisingly competitive in the 2018 NFL season. Quarterback Russell Wilson has even started to sense some similarities between this team and those of the past.

Seattle has been one of the more surprising teams this season at 3-4. According to Matt Calkins of the Seattle Times, likened this year's Seahawks team to the one that he was a part of in his rookie year:

“If we don't shoot ourselves in the foot, there's not too many people that can stop us,” Wilson said after Sunday's win. “It really reminds me of 2012, when nobody was really thinking anything and you had young guys who played great and veterans who played great. There's nothing that we can't do.”

Of course, much has changed since that season. Wilson is no longer considered the unproven player on a team of stars. He is now Seattle's unquestioned leader at a time where many felt they were heading into a full-fledged rebuild.

There is no question that the signs of a rebuild were as clear as day for the Seahawks in the offseason. Seattle had fallen vastly short of expectations in the 2017 campaign after being replaced atop the NFC West by the Los Angeles Rams. As a result, they had parted ways with virtually every veteran member of their once-formidable defense. Despite all the changes, Wilson and head coach Pete Carroll were adamant about the team's ability to compete this season. They have followed through on that notion by maintaining their status as the only other competent team in the division besides the Rams.

This year's team was certainly not as talented as the 2012 squad. However, it is clear that they are still rather optimistic about their chances of winning on a weekly basis.
