The 2018 campaign was a rough one for Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny. Fortunately, he is much more optimistic going into the 2019 NFL season.

In many ways, Penny found himself going through the motions as a rookie. According to Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic, he is confident that he will be able to pick up the slack:

“When you do everything right and the other back is doing everything right, they’re going to stick with the guy who is consistent, who is on it, who is faster,” Penny said. “This year, I think it’s going to be way different because now I’m starting to pick it up and I’m starting to play faster.”

It is encouraging to see that Penny is still confident in his skill set after enduring a rocky start to his career. There is no denying he has been busy this offseason to ensure that the same does not happen again.

The Seahawks made quite the investment when they selected him with the 27th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he fell vastly short of expectations after finishing the 2018 campaign rushing for 419 yards and two touchdowns. He found himself largely playing second fiddle to running back Chris Carson, who enjoyed a career-year with 1,151 yards and nine touchdowns.

Penny will certainly have his work cut out competing with Carson for the starting job. Either way, Seattle is undoubtedly excited to be forming a 1-2 punch in the backfield.

Penny's potential emergence will provide this offense with an added element to work with moving forward.
