Once again, Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas has made his feelings clear about what he wants to happen with his future: If the Seahawks don’t intend to sign him to an extension, then he asks that they trade him.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, NFL executives believe the latter will ultimately be the outcome in this whole Thomas saga.

It’s hard to argue with that opinion. A trade just seems like the most logical conclusion. After all, the Seahawks basically already told Thomas earlier this offseason that he’s not getting that extension. And following the Seahawks’ purge of veterans this offseason, it’s unlikely that they’re going to change their mind and suddenly hand the 29-year-old safety a lucrative long-term deal.

It wouldn’t make sense for them to allow Thomas’ contract to expire next offseason and lose him for nothing. The Seahawks need to accumulate as many assets as they can get as they continue to rebuild. While it doesn’t look like they can get a first- or second-rounder for Thomas in the final year of his deal, they could still use the extra draft picks he could fetch in return.

Seattle’s asking price in a trade for Thomas is reportedly still high, which is why the long-rumored trade to the Dallas Cowboys hasn't come to fruition. But chances are that price falls a little lower as more time passes. If not, though, then Thomas may just have to wait for his contract to expire next year before he finally finds a way out of Seattle.
